Celebrating the Closing of National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) 2025
As Canada’s 2025 National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) comes to a close, we reflect on an inspiring week filled with dialogue, advocacy, and celebration of accessibility. Through a wide range of online and in-person activities, Canadians from coast to coast came together to advance the vision of a barrier-free country.
The NAAW 2025 Closing Ceremony, held on Saturday morning, brought this important week to a powerful conclusion. The event opened with a land acknowledgement and welcoming remarks from Benny Xie, Founder and President of the NorthStar Special Needs Society, and Esther Wang, Associate Director of York University’s Asian Business and Management Program.
Distinguished guest speakers shared their ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, including:
• Michael Ma, Member of Parliament for Markham–Unionville
• Stephanie Maguire and Linda Desa-Casqueira from Autism Ontario
• Jenova Lin, a Grade 11 student and advocate living with Tourette’s Syndrome, who delivered a powerful personal reflection on inclusion and resilience
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the recognition of young artists who participated in the 2025 Disability Inclusion Art Exhibition. Several award-winning child artists introduced their artwork, showcasing their creative expressions and hopeful visions of a barrier-free world.
The celebration concluded with closing remarks, a group photo, and heartfelt thanks to all community members, leaders, and supporters who made this week possible. As NAAW 2025 concludes, we carry forward the momentum to create a Canada where everyone belongs, contributes, and thrives—leaving no one behind.
Looking ahead, the NorthStar Special Needs Society will continue to lead National AccessAbility Week initiatives in 2026, supported by federal funding as part of a two-year national accessibility engagement project. Building on the success of this year’s campaign, the 2026 program will further promote awareness, participation, and action toward a more inclusive and accessible Canada.
Further details will be announced in the coming months on the NSNS website www.nsns.ca and the dedicated NAAW project site naaw.nsns.ca.
